p.s. For your benefit we have posted Dr. Strick's official retirement announcement and Dr. Madkan's introduction below.
Dear Patients, Friends and Colleagues,
Many of you have been coming to our practice for years, even decades. I have had the great pleasure of meeting a number of patients thus far. A lot of you have expressed a bittersweet reaction to Richard’s retirement, gratitude for this wonderful care over the years, and sadness at missing a great friend and a warm doctor that you visited with often.
It is with this in mind that I wanted to reach out to you all and take this time to introduce myself further. I want to assure you that I will provide the same great level of care that you have come to know and trust. While I have memorized many of Richard’s stories, I feel my jokes and anecdotes may initially be a little less awesome than his, but I will try to keep you amused and your skin in great shape.
Like Richard, I share a deep love of jokes, good food, sports, and exciting travel. We met while I was a professor in the Division of Dermatology at UCLA during several UCLA reunions. We have traveled internationally together and continue to gather socially including attending a comedy show recently. Richard has also imparted upon me the importance of trivia knowledge and I am now aware that a group of zebras is called a “dazzle.”
Although I lived in Orange County, California until I was about 5, I always say that I am from and grew up in Augusta, Georgia. I attended pre-K through medical school in that state and my parents still live there. I trained at Emory, the University of Maryland at Baltimore, the University of Texas at Houston, and MD Anderson, where I served as chief resident in my final year. I worked in a very research oriented private practice in Houston, Texas for 3 years before being recruited to UCLA as a professor in the Division of Dermatology. There, I led the Psoriasis Clinic and won the teaching award from the UCLA residents for Outstanding Service in the Division. I left UCLA after 2.5 years to work with and eventually take over Richard’s practice.
My focus is in medical dermatology including research in hair loss, psoriasis, eczema, and viruses. I trained with the world famous MD Anderson surgical unit and do many of my own smaller surgeries and I also am well versed in fillers and botox. The office will also be offering chemical peels and laser hair removal. I enjoy meeting with and caring for my patients and insist on good skin exams to prevent skin cancers. I speak nationally on the treatment of psoriasis and eczema and train both young doctors and nurses in the importance of good dermatological care.
Please feel free to contact myself of my staff with any concerns or questions and I look forward to continuing a great legacy of skin care with you all.
Vandana Madkan, M.D.
